My Jacket

I am a terrible blogger. Work has taken over and when I think about blogging I can't think of what I'd like to write about!

So I thought I'd post a picture of the one and only time I've worn my DIY jacket out. I had a chance to wear her on stage in January, but sadly travelling with her is impossible. WAY too heavy!

Still need to finish adding studs to the right arm. But it's nearly all there now!

The Balenciaga Yellow Leather Jacket

Apologies for the lack of posting lately. I've just been on a MEGA month long tour! We started off in Moscow, then went to Dubai for a week, then toured around the States and Canada and finished off with a little sneaky week in New York City!

While in New York I visited Barneys and happened to stumble across the Balenciaga section. As some of you may know I have a slight obsession with Balenciaga leather jackets and I COMPLETELY fell in love with this yellow (official colour name is Moutarde). Sadly I had to walk away as I simply don't have the funds but it was fun sneaking photos as I pretended to convert Dollars into Pounds..!

In doing extensive research for my little DIY project, I've of course come across a few other beauties here and there. I found a black mini skirt version of Kristen's red dress...

And while drooling over some more Balmain pictures, I found a jacket to rival my own gorgeous red jacket...

More Jacket Pics

New photo found!

Having been away from my beloved jacket for coming on three weeks now, I had another little Googling session and found a load of pictures I'd never seen before that just refuelled my obsession.

My Own 'Balmain' Red Leather Studded Jacket

So here are the first few pictures of my baby... I mean, the jacket. I've used the Balmain studded jacket photos as a reference and then taken some artistic licence here and there (mostly when I can't quite make out what it's supposed to be from the pictures). Recreating such a statement designer piece all by hand still seems like such a crazy idea that I'm actually quite impressed with my own perseverance!

I haven't yet finished a whole section, but it's definitely coming together. I have a little more to do on the back and on both sleeves. I haven't even started the right sleeve yet but the left is coming along nicely.

I need to carry on adding safety pins all the way round and back up the other side, and then add a few more stars and studs onto this sleeve.

Balmain Jacket update

Bal-jack-ate? Backate? Bate?

In my last post (my first post!), I was so nervous to get started and just take the plunge that I tried to make it just like ripping off a plaster. (Or 'band-aid' if you're on the other side of the pond!) I typed everything so quickly and published it all in such a rush just so that I wouldn't chicken out! This time, I thought I would give a bit more time and detail!

Last time, I let you guys in on a project that has robbed me of many hours of my life! Today, I thought I'd explain a little about why I'm doing it. When I first saw the Balmain jacket of delight, originally in a magazine and then by stalking other people's blogs and photo uploads online, I fell. Deep. And a year later that love I felt hasn't faded even the teensiest bit! Many over-used words spring to mind when I look a it… Epic, fierce etc, but there is something else about it. I've always loved the teaming of two things that in a way, suggest opposites, but that complement each other beautifully; t-shirt and heels, leather and diamonds, denim and lace…

Here, you have the rough, brutal, aggressive side with studded leather, but it's in such excess, and so concentrated that it becomes sparkly and girly again. It's the perfect combination of "I don't care what anybody thinks" but yet screams "Look at me!" It's the rebellious "I haven't made any effort" partnered with "I have made SO. MUCH. EFFORT". I dig that.

Let us just have ANOTHER look at this beauty! (As if the last post didn't have enough pictures!)
